Interview with the Mayor

Thursday morning February 12, accompanied by teachers Rosanna Iannacone and Marialuisa Zaccara, the 31 pupils of the Sesto Campano primary school went to the town hall and were welcomed in the council room by the mayor Luigi Paolone who willingly submitted to the interview. Immediately afterwards he showed them his office.

For how many years ago the mayor of our country?

Mayor:

On May 31, 2015 the citizens of Sesto Campano were registered at the polls for the 2015 municipal elections and elected me their mayor

Roberto:
Did you already have any idea of being mayor as a child?

Mayor:

As a child I didn't think about it at all. In fact, I approached politics very late and by chance.

Francesca:
What are the main difficulties you encounter in your work?
Mayor:

Finding the economic resources to carry out all those services and infrastructures that make the quality of life in our country better.

Ida:
Can we talk about population growth in recent decades?

Mayor:

There has been a fairly limited increase - replied the mayor - Sesto Campano slightly exceeds 2,500 inhabitants. Even the number of foreigners here is quite low, compared to other municipalities, and they have integrated very well here.

How is the Municipality administered?
Mayor:

A Municipality administers itself on the basis of a schedule, linked to spending power. This programming is called: forecast budget, which must be approved by the city council, before the beginning of the year to which it refers. The administration is composed of the city council and the council, which is the executive body. The councilors, who are part of it, have specific skills (public works, school, environment, etc.). The council brings its proposals to the city council, which votes on them. The Mayor presides over the Council and administers the Municipality.

Has the Municipality of Sesto Campano undertaken or intends to undertake environmental protection initiatives?
Mayor:

As far as the environment is concerned, this Administration has found a truly dramatic situation in progress, with broken pipelines, dilapidated external sewers, waste abandoned everywhere. Gradually, with a series of significant structural interventions, such as sewers in the historic center and flooring of the same, as well as with the tool of the ordinances, it was possible to correct the trend and improve the hygiene and health situation in the country. Today, also thanks to the installed cameras and the help of the traffic police, an attempt is made to protect the external environment, to prevent the illegal discharge of objects, even bulky ones, such as washing machines, televisions, refrigerators etc. To remedy the inconvenience, a landfill authorized by the Municipality has been set up, which entails a significant cost for the Administration; despite this, people throw objects on the country roads. I propose to the kids to take a tour of the Sesto Campano area with the school bus, together with me, to observe the situation, photograph the most critical points and possibly set up an exhibition on the subject.
